Lead Carpenter Job Description


The Little Building Company is seeking a Lead Carpenter to join our team.  The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of experience as a builder/carpenter, have a valid drivers license, a reliable vehicle, and possess the basic tools of the trade.

Excellent opportunity for a qualified carpenter with minimum five years’ experience in rough and finish carpentry and other areas of residential construction. The ideal candidate will able to manage job sites with employees and trade contractors. As the front line in achieving company goals, the lead carpenter must focus on product quality and customer satisfaction. Pay based on experience and capabilities.

The Little Building Company is a full-service contractor based in Peterborough, Ontario. Our mission is to provide a high-quality design and building service that delights our clients and enhances the beauty and utility of their cottages and homes. We do residential construction including additions, renovations, bunkies, saunas, docks, decks and more.  We usually run two crews at once and have a great group of positive, smart, and fun loving staff.  We can likely offer year round full time work for the right candidate. 


Necessary Skills:

-Knowledge of construction methods and various trades such as demolition,  foundation work, framing, roofing, siding, drywall hanging, taping and finishing, finish carpentry (trim, case, base, shoe, crown), window and door installation

- Quality control experience and basic knowledge of applicable building codes

- Ability to interact and communicate well with the Client, Manager, and Subcontractors throughout the job

-Ability to manage and direct staff effectively, and provide detailed information on how to complete each task

-Ability to read and interpret plans

-Ability to foresee problems and come up with alternative solutions


Position Responsibilities:

Lead carpenter is completely responsible for the successful completion of the jobs given to them, which includes completing on time, on budget, and maintaining a high level of quality, safety, and professional communication.  They may at times need to deal with customer requests, questions, and inquires in a polite and business-like manner.  The Lead Carpenter must maintain an operational inventory of necessary materials, tools, and safety equipment


Additional Criteria for Qualified Candidates:

-        At least 5 years of on-site experience in the residential construction industry

-        A valid drivers license and transportation

-        Working at Heights, WHMIS, and First Aid certifications

-        Able to work 8am-5pm Monday – Friday, year round
